Training Commitment Levels

Over the course of its existence, the FSC Board has sought to be open and progressive in its efforts to provide a full range of soccer offerings. Even so, it has been our goal to make these changes in a measured fashion, and with thoughtful consideration.

In recent examples, we are now completing our 5th year of providing professional training, and have recently completed our second year of off-season training clinics which have become popular and well attended. And we are in the process of wrapping up our first session of the “Travel Development Program”, designed to prepare interested 6, 7 and 8 year olds for the travel program.

Our coaches have committed to education and accreditation, and our recreational program has completed its transition from a “seasonal” program to one that is “full year”. The club remains financially strong, well managed, and well rounded.

As our children improve on the field, we are challenged to find ways to foster this growth, and to provide our players and coaches with all the tools and training necessary to excel. And, while the club remains committed to the “parent coach”, there are teams and individual players that need more than what many of our dedicated parent coaches can provide. In recognition of this need, the club is responding.

The club is working with Head Trainer Derek Brown to provide an enhanced level of professional training. Whole teams desiring to commit to a “full time” trainer will be allowed to do so, through Soccer Consultants, Inc. Individuals that are part of a team that does not opt for a “full time” trainer will be provided the option of clinic training under the direction of Soccer Consultant staff. In offering the enhanced training program in this fashion, both full teams and individuals desiring additional soccer instruction and assistance may be accommodated.

At travel tryouts for the 2005-2006 season, several training levels will be offered.

The club will be divided into four distinct training levels; White, Blue, Red, and Red-Select. White will be our recreational level, with the lowest level of training commitment. Blue will be travel, with training offered at one night per week. Red and Red-Select will offer greatly enhanced training levels. Descriptions of each level are below, as well as a list of frequently asked questions.

It is our belief that the key to continued improvement for both teams and individuals is increased commitment, with better and more frequent training; this offering is another measured step by the club to provide the tools necessary for our children to increase their skills at the highest levels. We are confident that it is the right step, and maintains an important balance between parental oversight and involvement and professional coaching that will lead to success not only in the field, but in life. We hope you agree.

COMMITMENT LEVEL QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What does “Red” and “Blue” mean?

Red and Blue do NOT define playing level, rather, they define training commitment. A player that desires more training than currently offered would declare “Red”. Conversely, a player that would prefer to continue at the same level and frequency of training would opt for “Blue”.

Will the “election” of Red or Blue affect the placement of my child on a travel team?

Potentially , yes. Teams will be formed at the highest possible level of training commitment. For example, if 16 players were found to be of appropriate skill level to participate on a team, and 14 of these players opted for “Red”, the team would be formed at the higher training commitment level, with 14 players. The two “Blue” players would be given the option to increase their training commitment level to Red.

Will there be additional cost over and above the registration fees?

No.  The costs associated with each training level are outlined on a tiered cost schedule.  Each level will have an associated cost, payable at registration in accordance with the registration policy. With respect to Red-Select, or full-time trainers, the cost will be primarily contingent on the licensing level, playing experience, and training/coaching experience of the specific trainer retained by the team.

Does the Club specify the Red-Select “full time” trainer to be assigned to a team?

Yes.  The club assigns and approves all trainers for each level of training.

What is the definition of “full time”?

Attendance and participation at all practices, games and tournaments.
