Field Striping
We rely on coaches and parents to help maintain the field markings. Especially in the spring, when we have sufficient rain to wash away the paint, and the grass grows to where the lines are literally mowed away, we need to remark the fields each week.
Here is some helpful information for those of you (commissioners, coaches and others) who may be charged with the task of re-striping one of our club fields this year.
The stripers and paint will be stored in the brown or green storage boxes at the parks.
- To give an idea of the paint quantity needed the pre-K and K fields will use 1-2 cans of paint and the 1st/2nd-grade fields will use 2-3 cans of paint. The 3rd/4th-grade fields will use 3-4 cans of paint and the largest fields will use between 4 and 7 cans of paint
- Shake the paint cans vigorously. (This will minimize clogging issues.)
- Remove the striper from storage. It may be necessary to attach or unfold the handle on the striper. There are several models in circulation.
- Turn the paint cans upside down and insert into the striper. Again, the models vary.
- Line up the middle of the striper to the existing stripe on the ground.
- Press the handle to start the flow of paint.
- Walk at a slower than normal pace while constantly keeping the striper lined up with the existing stripe.
- Continue around the field until completed. Don’t forget to paint the goalie boxes, mid-field lines, corner marks, and center circles.
- When finished, throw the empty cans in the trash, place the remaining paint cans and striper back into the storage box.
- Finally, please remember this is a recreational league. Crooked lines will not hinder the efforts of the kids, refs, and coaches.
