Weather Guidelines

THUNDER AND LIGHTNING

Fishers Soccer Club follows the 30 minute rule.  In the event that thunder is heard or lightning is seen all practices and games will be abandoned and players and spectators will be directed to go to the vehicles.  Events will not resume until 30 minutes have passed since the last incident of thunder or lightning.  [ refer to Severe Weather Position Paper ]

 

Severe Weather - WATCH OR WARNING

In the event that severe weather is projected ( i.e. National Weather Service issues Watch or Warning ) the following guidelines are in effect for our recreational and travel teams.

Practice

  • Practice for recreational teams will be cancelled.
  • Travel practice may be held.

Game

  • Referees have authority to not start or abandon a game in progress based on weather and field conditions.

 

Extreme Cold

In the event that the local air temperature or windchill index dips to or below 45° Fahrenheit the following guidelines are in effect for our recreational and travel teams.

Cold Index * Recommended Guidelines
46+ No Change
45 and lower Additional clothing allowed during games; refer to "Cold Weather Guidelines" listed below for clothing guidelines
40 and lower Shorten games and practice
35 and lower Suspend/cancel games and practice

Extreme Heat

In the event that the the air temperature rises to or above 80° Fahrenheit the following guidelines are in effect for our recreational and travel teams.

Heat Index * Recommended Guidelines
Below 80
  • No Change
80-94
  • Players should be able to take in as much water as they want with unlimited individual water breaks.
  • Mandatory 3-minute team/group water breaks every 20 minutes, in shade if available.
  • Team should provide Ice-down towels for cooling.
  • Coaching Staff should monitor players carefully for heat related problems.
95-103 or
Heat Advisory
  • Players should be able to take in as much water as they want with unlimited individual water breaks.
  • Mandatory 3-minute team/group water breaks every 15 minutes, in shade if available.
  • Team should provide Ice-down towels for cooling.
  • Coaching Staff should monitor players carefully for heat related problems.
  • Practices should be shortened by 15 minutes.
104 + or Excessive Heat Warning
  • All practices will be cancelled.
